Artist statement: Pileated Woodpeckers are the largest woodpecker in the United States. They love the trees in the forest for food and nesting. I was fortunate to spot a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers building a nest in a tree on the edge of wetlands. And then to see the parents feeding their young on several occasions. The young look so excited as each parent would bring food back to the nest. I was thrilled be able to photograph this family.

Artist statement: My son and I would walk every morning before school, and almost always saw a great blue heron. We named it Bill, of course, on account of it's enormous beak. On this day the sky, reflected in the water, contained the same colors as the bird itself.

Artist statement: On my daily walk before school with my son, it was a very dark and gloomy morning, but suddenly the rising sun broke through the clouds and perfectly illuminated the far shore. My heart was racing because I felt it would not last long. I turned my camera to portrait orientation, and took 12 overlapping shots with my 70-200mm lens, and within seconds the sunlight faded. The rest of the day was gloomy, but I had my shot!
