Artist statement: I am an observational painter, I paint from life. Most often I paint landscapes and could be called a Plein Air painter, but that term has become a bit limiting. I start each painting on location and I try to approach each one with a fresh and open point of view. Most of each painting is finished on the spot, but they are frequently reworked and adjusted in my studio. I try to make my paintings more than just a copy of a place but also create a narrative or story.

Artist statement: The Draper Corporation was founded in the mid-1800's and grew to become the largest maker of power looms in the world. At its height, over 3000 people worked at the plant in Hopedale. Its was a major force in the industrial revolution, creating jobs, enormous wealth for some, and social inequality and environmental damage for others. The company closed in the 1970's. Demolition began in 2020.
