Grandsons in Black and White

Artist statement: I have been painting for a few years with Bonnie Frederico. I started with pencils and gradually worked my way to oils. I have found my passion in oils, I can lose myself for hours oil painting. Combine that with the fact that I have always been dr to black and white photos, learning to work with just two colors and all of the shades in between has been fun and a tremendous learning experience. It turns out that my grandsons are not only my greatest joys, they are also very good subjects.

Artist statement: This cheerful piece is a little bit vintage and represents some of the things I love about summer. The blue pottery bowl and embroidered table cloth remind me of summer afternoons with my grandmother drinking lemonade and shelling peas. I painted the bowl, lemons and fabric from life and then added the blue skies and honeybee to complete the feeling of a lazy summer day.

Artist statement: The blue flow pitcher, bright red cherries and white linen drew me in with their feeling of a vintage, colonial table. Objects that have a sense of wear and a past make me wonder what their history is and who their previous owners were. I'm sure whoever owned this lovely pitcher in the past treasured it on their table, maybe with a bowl of cherries.

Artist statement: I love incorporating elements of nature into my work - the curving forms and endless variety of plants and animals provided endless possibilities. Most of my work leans toward bright palettes and lighthearted themes; this time I wanted to try something more sedate, but still engaging.

Artist statement: It was Thursday August 12th, 2021 and I heard a rumble and looked outside. There was what appeared to be a massive alien-like cloud approaching from the west. I quickly grabbed my aerial drone, equipped with a camera, and flew 400 feet into the path of the monster. At this moment I was in awe of both the beauty and frightening look of mother nature. I snapped this panorama and got back home quickly. This is one of my favorite captures.
