Artist statement: Using soft pastels on sanded paper, I primarily paint impressionistic landscapes. I am most inspired by the play of light and shadow on natural forms – trees, grasses, rocks, and water – that subtly illuminates their hidden connections to each other and of course, ultimately, to ourselves. Landscape paintings can provide a momentary respite from the "noise" of our daily lives and remind us of the deep primal connection we have to the natural world.

Artist statement: I am primarily an oil painter but Night Owl is an exception. I work in my studio from photos I take and I was lucky to catch this shot at a wildlife center in Florida, The owl was not at all happy with my camera nor with my hooting at him! What an attitude!

Artist statement: Goldfinches love to eat the seeds and flower petals of Echinacea. This small thief comes to my flower garden each year to help himself! This painting represents a combination of my older floral works with my bird studies, so it is a new direction for my work.

Artist statement: At first glance this is a picture of ten young sparrows at the birdbath, each with it's own agenda. In reality it is a study of light and shadow. I always work from my own photographic materials and here I chose from several photos. I picked each bird on the basis of personality or the way the light and shadow played on and around it.

Artist statement: "The Eye of the Tiger" represents the wild side all animals have, including humans. While we as humans suppress our pure primal instincts to be part of society, sometimes the wild side breaks out and the lines of society's "cage" become blurred. The blurry the cage becomes and the more clear the eye of the tiger, the more we are faced with out own mortality

Artist statement: Faces are stories. I am driven to portray these stories through my artwork. Using watercolor on paper, I focus on detail and likeness to capture my subject and show their personality, their emotions, their story. I use layers of color to create depth and draw the viewer in. Through the process of painting my subjects I get to know them. My goal is to bring life to the paper so the viewer can know them too. Through my portraits I celebrate each of my subjects and tell their stories.
